Stephan Vehmeijer is an orthopedic surgeon who has specialised in hip surgery. He has been placing total hip replacements through the anterior approach since 2007. He also performs many hip revision surgeries, almost always through the anterior approach. He is also an expert on Rapid Recovery (ERAS); a program aimed at faster and better recovery after hip replacement surgery. On 1 April 2014, he was the first in the Netherlands to place a total hip arthroplasty in day surgery as the start of a successful program, where patients can and do go home routinely on the day of surgery.
